Material Bodies

After years of working with video, animation, and painting, the move toward three-dimensional forms emerged as a natural extension of Andrea Honsberg’s practice. The shift introduced a new physicality to her visual language — one that allows her to confront the imagined figures that have long inhabited her two-dimensional works.

Through sculpture and soft materials, Honsberg explores the possibility of touch: what it means to grasp a character, to hold an image that once existed only as surface. The resulting forms balance familiarity and unease, inviting the viewer into a space that oscillates between humour and discomfort.

These works revisit recurring symbols from her earlier pieces, translating them into objects that carry both playfulness and tension. In doing so, Honsberg investigates how material presence can alter the emotional charge of imagery, transforming the act of viewing into one of encounter.
